Sunset in Maui

If haven’t added a post in a long time.  This is a picture of a sunset taken when we were in Maui this winter.  We had an amazing trip, starting in Honolulu for a few days.  Then we spent 5 days in Kauai, and then 5 days in Maui.  What a great time to go away and get away from the snow and cold in New York.  We saw whales every day, breaching, flipping and showing their tales.  And let’s not leave out the sea turtles.  But the best part, was to share it all with my husband.  This is the first time we have had a vacation alone together in too many years.  Just soaking up the sun, talking and reading at the beach or by the pool was outstanding.  Hopefully, we’ll go back the same time next year.

SPCA Fundraiser

I just returned from volunteering at an SPCA fundraiser on Super Bowl Sunday at the local  Stop ‘n Shop.  In 2 hours our table raised over $250.00!!  People were generous and friendly in a time when giving is not easy.  I can’t thank those people enough who are helping so many dogs and cats have food and shelter until they find forever homes.

Wikis and Winter

I found this wintry picture and decided to post it.   “Whitetail deer in snow.”  It’s serene and beautiful.

Wikis’s   – I think Deirdre’s post really says it all.  I like this idea for a library and summer reading program purposes.   While I was checking out other wiki’s, I found a university in Michigan, (I think, I looked at a lot of them), that was introducing it to their staff, and offered a sandbox for playing around with it.  But you had to have a password to enter the sandbox, which is good because it limits those who can edit.  I like that many libraries use a subject wiki; very helpful for librarians and staff.

The wiki concept reminds me of the online collaboration feature in MS word, but could used with a much larger and less restricted population or group.

I thought I noticed John used it for YA Librarian’s to add their favorite 2008 pic’s??  What a great use for a wiki.

It’s trickiest downside is when used for research and or a citation in a paper.   Credibility is compromised when anyone can add or edit to it to a wiki.

Six Random Things

I said earlier today “I’m in,” Froggyfield, froggyfield.wordpress.com .  So here goes….

1.  A personal and proud moment;  I climbed to the top of a very high mountain at Yosemite, which took 8 hours, (before I had hip replacement).

2.  One of my dreams is to travel around the world, and I want to spend a long time exploring Greece and Italy.

3.  I wanted to grow up to be a Veternarian, but I am really squeemish!!

4.  Very rewarding for me – is to be a part of a group in my neighborhood where we rescue cats and kittens, find them homes, or humanly trap, spay and release them into environment.  My favorite outdoor cat that I rescued and took care of was Puff, the one-eyed cat.

5.  I used to play backgammon in college, and want to start playing again.

6.   My husband and I lived in Almonte, Ontario, Canada.

It is late, and I will only tag 2 people; Elise and Mercy.

And if you don’t want to play, that’s okay too!!

Tomorrow should be our first big snowfall.  Stay safe, dry and warm.  I think this cat has the right idea.  Take a nap in a warm spot.

I had a lot of fun looking at the generators.  I love using publisher, but generators provide an opportunity for more play in so many dimensional worlds!  It’s really cool!!  I found this on Letter James.  I love the idea of Animoto – taking pictures, mixing them into a video and setting them to music.
